Gabbeh rugs have been woven by the women of the Qashgai and Lori tribes in southern Persia for centuries. The weavers only improvise their designs which often depict their surroundings and nomadic lifestyle. There are still a small number of women today who are still weaving gabbehs the old fashioned way, with natural vegetal dyes and hand spun Kurdish wool.
